It is time for the ARRL 10 Meter Contest. It will be taking place from Saturday, December 14, 00:00 UTC through Sunday, December 15, 23:59 UTC. We think that this is a very interesting contest, as many Dxers love the 10 meter band, but mainly because, with the recent solar activity, it is possible to work many remote parts of the world these days, despite we have almost come to the winter solstice and there are only a few hours of daylight in the northern hemisphere.
Here in Europe in fact, you can usually find signals from Asia and Australia during the morning in this band. Sometimes it is even possible to work Hawaii long path with signals going over Africa and Antarctica! It is hard to work Japan, altough it was quite easy in October. In the afternoon, the propagation shifts towards Africa, North and South America with many signals from the Caribbean, USA, Canada and Mexico. About the USA, it is easy to find stations from the East coast, but even Texas, Missouri and Arkansas are often heard. It is difficult to work the West coast. Just like Japan, the West coast was a lot easier in October when the northern hemisphere enjoyed more daylight hours than now.
With these nice conditions, it will be possible to have fun in this contest and this doesn’t happen every year. Last year was disappointing because the solar activity was lower and there is no guarantee about what will happen from 2014 onwards; thus it’s better to take advantage of the 2013 edition of the ARRL 10 meter contest!
The modes are SSB (2 points per QSO) and CW (4 points per QSO). The power limit for low power entries is 150 Watts. The multipliers are the DXCC entities worked, the Canadian states/territories, the US states and the Mexican states.
Logs must be sent to: email@example.com in Cabrillo format no later than January 14, 2014. For all details, see www.arrl.org/10-meter.

An important event for top band lovers. The ARRL 160 meter CW Contest will be taking place this weekend, starting Friday, December 6 at 2200 UTC and running through 1600 UTC, Sunday, December 8. DX stations (i.e. outside USA or Canada) can only work W/VE amateurs, including stations located overseas and non-contiguous US Territories, such as Puerto Rico and Hawaii for example.
Contest Exchange: W/VE: Signal report and ARRL/RAC Section, DX stations, signal report only (RST).
Multiplier: For DX stations, the number of ARRL/RAC Sections worked.
Another noteworthy contest comes from India. The VU International DX Contest will be taking place in CW and SSB from 10 through 80 meters. Indian hams may work any country. Asian hams may work India and any non-Asian country. Non-Asian operators may work only Asian countries, but they are encouraged to especially work India, also for multiplier credit. The time starts on Saturday at 12 UTC and finishes on Sunday at 12 UTC. The exchange is formed by the usual RS(T) report followed by a progressive number except for Indian entrants who will give the code of their state or territory. For non Indian operators, the multipliers are the number of Indian states/territories and the number of DXCC entities worked.
For the rules, see http://arsi.info/contests/international/rules.
About Dxpeditions underway, VU7AG is continuing the operations from Agatti, Laccadives.
